Best Portable Music Player in 2026 (MP3 Players Compared)

The SnowSky / FiiO Echo Mini is the best portable music player in 2026 at $59.99, sold by FiiO direct. Five MP3 players and DAPs from $39.99 to $249 compared.

Heads up: some links here pay us. If you buy through an EcoFlow or eufy link we may earn a commission, at no cost to you (that's Awin, in some countries). Amazon and other shop links pay us nothing right now. I haven't tested these products myself unless the page says so; the picks come from the specs and listings, and I'll tell you when I'm not sure. Our Pick

SnowSky / FiiO Echo Mini

A phone does everything, but a player does one job: music with no notifications. I have not heard any of these, so this is a read of the listings, prices and owner ratings, not a sound review. The SnowSky / FiiO Echo Mini ($59.99, 4.2 stars on 201 ratings for the Sky Blue listing) takes the winner slot because it is the cheapest hi-res-style player sold directly by its maker, and it is the model people are searching for. The AGPTEK A65 ($39.99) is the cheapest clip-on option, the HiBy R1 ($69) is the runner-up, and the HiBy R4 ($249) is the upgrade if you want balanced output and Android.

Our Top Picks

Top Pick

SnowSky / FiiO Echo Mini

$59.99

A small button-driven player with Bluetooth 5.3, 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs, sold by FiiO's own Amazon store at $59.99.

Pros
  • $59.99 from FiiODirect, the maker's own storefront
  • Plays DSD, WAV, FLAC, APE, MP3, M4A and OGG, per the listing
  • 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone outputs with independent volume control
  • Bluetooth 5.3, 8GB built in plus a card slot
  • 15 hours of playback, per the listing
Cons
  • Bluetooth is SBC only, per the listing
  • The three colors are separate listings with different scores: Sky Blue 4.2 on 201, Pink 4.3 on 70, Black 3.9 on 415
  • 8GB built in is small for a lossless library
This is the player people have been searching for by name lately. The listing describes a retro-styled interface with an IPS color screen and classic buttons. I have not used it, so I cannot say how it sounds or feels; the specs here are the listing's and the maker's.
Runner Up

HiBy R1

$69

A touchscreen player with Hi-Res Audio certification and a CS43131 DAC chip, sold by HiBy at $69.

Pros
  • $69 from HiBy's own Amazon storefront
  • CS43131 DAC chip, native DSD256, per the listing
  • Bluetooth 5.1 output with LDAC, aptX, AAC and SBC
  • Takes a microSD card up to 2TB
  • 15 hours of playback, per the listing
Cons
  • The listing says it requires a microSD card
  • Bluetooth is output-only
  • 3.8 stars, the lowest score in this group
HiBy lists a touchscreen, its own HiByOS and a 1150mAh battery. The 3.8 average on 549 ratings is the weakest owner score here, so read the recent reviews before buying. I have not tested it.
Best Value

AGPTEK A65 clip player (64GB)

$39.99

A $39.99 clip-on player with 64GB, Bluetooth 5.3, FM radio and a voice recorder.

Pros
  • $39.99
  • 64GB built in, card slot up to 128GB
  • Clip design with a pedometer mode
  • Bluetooth 5.3, FM radio and voice recorder
  • 2,552 ratings
Cons
  • 3.8 stars
  • The "Hi-Fi lossless" wording is the maker's marketing line; no DAC chip is named in the bullets I read
It is the nearest thing to the SanDisk Clip Sport Plus that Amazon sells new; the SanDisk itself had no new listing when I looked. It is a general-purpose cheap player, not an audiophile one.

Surfans F20

$105.39 (Prime deal)

A scroll-wheel player with an ESS ES9018K2M DAC and a 64GB card included. The listing price is a Prime member deal.

Pros
  • ESS ES9018K2M DAC, per the listing
  • 64GB card included, supports up to 512GB
  • ALPS scroll wheel and physical buttons
  • Bluetooth 5.2, line out and headphone out
  • 5,063 ratings at 4.0, the largest owner base here
Cons
  • The $105.39 price is exclusive to Prime members when I read it, so the price without Prime may differ
  • Up to 10 hours of playback, per the listing
It has the most ratings of anything in this guide and a click-wheel style control. Because the displayed price is a Prime-only deal, it does not take a winner slot here.

HiBy R4

$249

An Android player with four DAC chips and balanced 4.4mm output, sold by HiBy at $249.

Pros
  • $249 from HiBy's own storefront
  • Four DAC chips, native DSD256 and PCM 768kHz, per the listing
  • 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced outputs
  • 4.7-inch screen on Android 12, with Wi-Fi and two-way Bluetooth 5.0
  • 4.1 stars on 678 ratings
Cons
  • $249 is four times the Echo Mini
  • Android 12 on a Snapdragon 665 is an older platform
HiBy lists a system-wide SRC bypass and a Snapdragon 665 chip. It runs Android, so streaming apps are possible; the listing title names Spotify. This is the premium pick here, and the claims about sound are HiBy's.

How This Was Researched

I read the Amazon.com listings on 6 October 2026 (US delivery, ZIP 10001): prices, ratings, sellers and each maker's stated specs. I have not tested these players myself. A winner has to be buyable new at a price you can read from a seller you can trust, so the players I could not meet that for are named below and not ranked. The Sony Walkman NW-A306 is not sold on Amazon.com, and the Sony NW-A55 was only available used. The SanDisk Clip Sport Plus, Zune HD and iPods had no new listings; they exist as used or refurbished units, so I do not link them. The FiiO M21 ($399.99) and M33 R2R ($729.99) were offered by third-party sellers, and the Shanling M0 Pura ($129) had only 30 ratings, so none of the three is ranked here. Many no-name "HiFi MP3 player" listings show near-perfect scores; I did not rank them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not on Amazon.com when I looked on 6 October 2026: searches returned screen protectors for it, not the player. Check Sony's own store or other retailers.

I found no new listing for it on Amazon.com, only accessories. The AGPTEK A65 is a clip-on player that is sold new.

Only as used or refurbished units, which vary by seller, so I do not link them or rank them.

The HiBy R4 runs Android 12 with Wi-Fi, and its listing names Spotify. The Echo Mini, HiBy R1 and AGPTEK are for files you load on yourself.

It does one thing. Makers list longer playback times and separate outputs; I have not measured either, so I cannot say how they compare with your phone.
